winterizing fountain depth

(Trenton, MI, USA)

We need to close our pond (1000 gallons; 30" at deep part; 10 feet square) as our falls froze up and water was diverting out. We have taken the pump out and added water. We have a Laguna 1000 Power Jet (waterfall and fountain pump kit) which we have put in the pond. Currently it is bubbling about 2-3 inches above the water line. Is this okay? What is the ideal height for the water to bubble over the water surface? We live in zone 4-5 (Trenton, Michigan). Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

Doug says it may be a tad excessive but shouldn't be a problem. It will simply keep the water a bit more open than if the flow was reduced. Enjoy the winter with it.
