wilting young impatiens

I want to put young impatiens in my window boxes. i bought a flat of young impatiens a few weeks ago and have been waiting for warmer temps to transplant them. The problem is they are looking wilted and I think need transplanted. What should I do?

Doug says it depends why they are wilting.

Underwatering ? Water
Overwatering ? Cut back - only water when soil is dry.
Temperature ? Too cold - warm it up wherever they are.
Overfertilizing ? You've put too much plant food on them - soak them thoroughly every day for 3-4 days to drive the excess nitrogen out of the soil - then resume normal watering.

So - those are your options and without knowing what it is you're doing, I can't help much.

Good luck.

wilting new impatients
by: Christa

I don't know about 'new' impatients, but I do have problems every year with small white larvae found around the rootball in my established window boxes, which would feed on the roots, then make the plants wilt. Check the rootball in your 'flat', which I will do from now on as well. Maybe these little guys were 'imported' without your or my knowledge. It's worth a try, but also follow Doug's advise.
