Wild Straberries Througout my Lawn

I recently purchased a home, and this summer, I've come to find out that the "weeds" growing in my backyard lawn aren't weeds at all. They are wild strawberry plants. I've been seeing new strawberries popping up as the drier summer has had me mowing less.

My question is: how do I get rid of the strawberry plants without hurting the lawn? I want to improve the quality of my backyard lawn, and part of that is removing the strawberry plants, and adding seed and fertilizer over the coming months.

Please help me understand the best way to rid myself of the wild strawberries without harming my lawn.

Doug says that many lawn issues are created by poor management of the turf grasses. The real answer is that you have to grow a thick turf grass and manage it properly.

This means following the organic lawn directions here.

And making sure you're top-dressing with new grass seed every fall at recommended rates.

And mowing tall to encourage grasses to choke out weeds.

Etc etc. But it's all in the articles on growing organic lawns or the ebook with step by step instructions.

Wild Strawberries

My yard is also full of these weeds (yes, they are weeds). They spread like crazy once they take hold. My husband always cuts our grass as short as possible, so this year I will implore him to raise the mower blades! Thanks for the advice.

A question for Steve. I was wondering if you have a photo of these wild strawberies. I have a plant coming up in my garden and other areas that looks like a wild strawberry but I have never seen it bear any berrys.

Thanks
Dave
