what is eating the irises??

I live in Northern RI and something is eating my purple iris flowers! I am not sure what kind of iris it is - someone gave it to me - short and not bearded (rhizones not bulbs). Possibly "little ceasar"? Anyway what ever ate the purple did not touch the Siberians (White Swirl). All the irises are located on the edge of the deep woods. Therefore lots of wild life.
Any ideas?
Doug says - try deer. They nibble on my iris every now and then but not to extremes as I don't think they like the taste. That would be my first guess if the plants are good and tall and you got them through the bud stage (chipmunks and squirrels can do buds). That's my best guess without sitting out in your yard.
