weeds around flowers, bushes

How about the vinegar? does it work, how much where to put it?
Doug says that using household vinegar doesn't really work on weeds. It usually isn't strong enough unless you douse the ground with it - and if you do that you're as likely to kill a whole lot of stuff (including good plants). Higher concentrations of vinegar are available through feed stores (sometimes) or through online organic stores.
I also believe that using a small hand hoe will safely reduce most weeds without damaging the plants. And then a 2-3 inch layer of bark chips as mulch will stop weeds from establishing and make it easier to pull them out.
