Using Corn Gluten in Started Plants

I have read your piece on using corn gluten to control weeds. If I am transplanting annuals from pots to the bed in my yard, can I use corn gluten along with mulch to prevent weed seeds from the yard from starting in the garden?
Thank you.

Doug says that this will work nicely to stop most weed seeds. Do read the label for application rates and directions etc as these vary between products. It has been registered with the EPA as requiring "unconditional registration" which means you can't hurt yourself or the environment with this product.

But yes, it works nicely on most seeds and can be used as a pre-emergent control in gardens where you're not trying to start seeds yourself.
