transplanting daffodils

when is it safe to separate and transplant daffodils. I live in the northeast & they have just finished flowering. I'd like to transplant them. thank you.
Doug says that there are two times to move daffodils - the first is just after flowering. They are carefully dug up and moved - replanted at the same depth as they were growing. You'll lose some but if you need to move them - that's one time.
The other time to transplant daffodils is when the leaves go yellow on them. You dig up the bulb, keep it cool and dry until fall when you replant where you want to them to grow.
You can dig them up in the fall and replant but not too many folks do it this way. I tend to do this but only because I'm too busy in the spring to move bulbs.
And frankly, I rarely move daffodils, they'll stay in place for years without a lot of effort so I simply buy more. :-)
