Topsy turvy tomato planters

Does anyone have experience growing tomatoes upside-down in those cute hanging planters? We just hung up three of them and are curious as to the outcome. Thanks!
Doug says these are all the rage. And I have to admire the marketing process that's gone into them. But it's all so much B.S.
A tomato plant requires a certain amount of soil for the roots, a certain amount of sunlight, fertilizer and water. Those things aren't changed because you hang the plant upside-down. :-)
So if you don't feed it enough, or don't water it when it requires watering, then you won't get any more crops from one of these upside down kits than you would from any other growing system.
But they do have great tv commercials.

going away for a few days. how do i keep them watered without asking neighbor and using a drip system?
Doug says you don't. A tomato has to be watered regularly all summer or you'll lose the fruit to blossom end rot. Get a friend to soak 'em very day while you're away or lose 'em.
