Giant Ichneumon wasp female
by: Moni

Shannon
This is a giant ichneumon wasp female.
These are found in eastern North America in forest areas.
The long tail is the ovipositor - used to lay eggs inside of a tree. The eggs are laid near a host larva of the horntail wasp that bores into wood.
The males do not have the long narrow tail.

Such a cool find! Thanks for sharing it!
