spreading diatomaceous earth

How do you spread it? By hand? with a seed spreader?

Doug says that most products of this material come with a salt-shaker kind of applicator. I just dust the plant with it. A seed spreader would be serious overkill. You could do it by hand (harmless to humans) but you'd waste a lot - find a small duster applicator for best results.
