Slow growing Humillis

Why do humillis palms grow slow in plastic containers than those in wood containers?

Doug says he's not an expert on palm growth but if I were to make a guess, I'd suggest the root balls of the black plastic pots heat up much more than the root balls in wood. And there's only so much root-heat a plant can take before growth slows down.
