Propagating Trees

Propagating trees for your own garden follows most of the guidelines we've already looked at in this propagation section. Tree Seed
Getting your own trees from seed is the easiest method you can use. All trees start from seed and you can get this and start your very own forest. The trick – if there is one – with tree seed is to not allow the larger nuts (like chestnut) to sit outside of their shells and dry out. Drying out means killing them. So always plant nut trees immediately and don't let them sit around. This is always a good idea with most tree seeds – plant them as soon as you obtain them from the tree or from the seedhouse. Follow the directions on starting perennial seed (90 days cool – 90 days warm) for good germination results. See the section on starting perennial seed Tree Cuttings
Generally speaking, trees do not propagate easily or at all from tender tip cuttings. I wouldn't waste my time with them if I were you. Even the professionals don't do it this way. You can take them as hardwood cuttings for the most part.
