Planting by a propane tank

I have a propane tank situated between two trees and would like to include the three items into one flower bed. I have been told by some people that you cannot plant by a propane tank because your plants will die, no one seems to be able to tell me why. Others have told me it makes no difference and I should do it. I'm looking for the facts, will a propane tank some how kill my flowers if I plant around it?

Doug says the only reason I know of that flowers beside a propane tank will die is if the person filling the tank stomps on them. Or if the soil is so compacted from the tank foundation construction that it won't grow anything. Any "leakage" from the propane tank is prohibited in any area I've ever heard of so that's not an issue.

I have absolutely no idea why plants couldn't grow there other than physical abuse. Get the soil right and you should be fine. Mind you, don't make it hard to get to the tank or the supply company is going to be really annoyed at you.

As a former propane company manager, you should keep plants at least 10 feet away from your tank for fire safety reasons, If it can burn you risk burning the conecting line from the regulater to the line going to your building.
