Planting Bare Root Roses

Hi Doug,
I have a question about bare root roses that I recently bought. I am going to plant them this weekend. New growth has begun to grow on one of them. Should I leave them on the rose or trim them off? Someone told me at Home Depot that these shoots take away from the roots. Is that true?
Thank you,
Katrina Gutierrez

Doug says that home depot doesn't know what it's talking about. Leave them on or the plant will have to take energy to produce them again.

My rosebed is now covered with 4 foot of snow. I am jealous that you can plant your new roses now! Just kidding, but you know home depot is more knowledgeable about home improvement than plants. Best of luck with your new roses!
