Nematodes on my tomatoes and curcurbits

by Lorraine Hoag

Is there anything I can do to cleanse the soil in my raised bed of those awful nematodes?
We have added lots of compost and manure for next spring planting.
Is there anything else?
Do beneficial nematodes help?
thank you for your good work.

Doug says that nematodes are microscopic worms/eels so the odds on you actually seeing them on your tomatoes are not good (unless you have far better eyesight than I do) :-)

I don't think this is what your problem is - you may have some kind of caterpillar or worm. See this page to identify your insect pests - read the comment section under each one for control and further information on the pest.

Root Knot Nematodes
by: Smitty--Sapulpa OK

About the article of nematodes in the garden, there articles on the innernet about these little boogers. This year my tomatoes, cucumbers and pepper plant roots were infested. After pulling them up you could see the damage, rotton and knotty. Tilling in the fall several times is supose to help kill the nematodes. Also EPSOM SALT will be used before next year planting, scattered about and tilled in the soil. Hope this helps and happy gardening.
