Love brunneras!!!
by: Sue

I love both the "typical" brunnera and the great new variety Jack Frost!
I have the best luck with the old-fashioned ones on the NorthWest corner of my house under a small Korean Spice viburnum. Every year my brother-in law asks for more brunnera for his wooded lot and I always have lots of "babies" to share. I cut off the spent flowers and stems and any dead foliage after the spring bloom. I only water when the plants look droopy.
My Jack Frost is doing very well in partial shade on the South side of the house. I have found they do best with some protection from the building. This summer I have 1 offshoot from the Jack Frost! It is unfortunate that it is hard to find locally and seems to be not so prolific in the garden. A must for lovers of delicate blue flowers!

Has anything changed?
by: Ferne

These plants thrive in moist, shady conditions. Has anything changed? Competition from other plants? Less shade or less moisture than there used to be? Running out of energy and need a dose of manure?

I moved a couple of the more common Brunnera from a dryer spot on the North East side of my house to a spot in the backyard that gets full shade. The difference was amazing. Both the plant and leafs were soon twice the size they had ever been.

Jack Frost not doing well this spring 2009
by: Cathy

I love my Jack Frost Brunneras. I have 2 plants that were plants at the same time (4 years ago) yet one has always outperformed the other. This spring 2009 neither plant is doing well. It is now the end of May and there are only a few small leaves on the plants and only the larger of the two plants has any flowers. I have pictures from other years and they are beautiful. I have been out searching for 2 more Jack Frost Brunneras just in case the old ones don't come back. I live in Bradford, Ontario.

I love Jack Frost Brunneras!

I have had the “Jack Frost? Brunnera growing in my shaded areas for 3 yeas now. It has been a LOVE AFFAIR to say the least! It's like having 3 different plants! It comes up looking a bit loose and airy... then blooms TRUE BLUE blooms that are so delicate it looks like fairies must have kissed them...and when done blooming it grows these stunning specimen leaves that steal the show!
What more can you ask for in a plant?! This plant is in my top 5 garden loves for SURE!

It is lovely, isn't it....quite a showy one. I have one other type and keep thinking I must move it to a better spot. Maybe it will happen this year. Wouldn't mind picking this one up two, if I should happen to come across a small specimen.

Moni's question
by: GardenJoy

Moni .. thank you for the comments on this brunnera. I wanted it for a while and finally found it this Spring .. but it was past its bloom time I think .. waiting to see blooms next Spring and they are supposed to be that lovely blue. I have every confidence it will be. Meanwhile the foliage was amazing even in our drought and heat during the summer. I would highly recommend it !

This does look like it has frost on it...I also like this brunnera. The bright/cool look it gives a shaded area would be great. Nice close up. Are the flowers blue like the regular brunnera?
