These are actually blocks of ice that were formed into circles by the waves of Lake Michigan. They are covered in sand and look rather like mushrooms!

icy sand "stones"

I love going to the big lake in all seasons but winter is always a surprise, you never know what the waves will form. I've seen it where huge ice blocks ungulate with the wave movement and I've seen it with icy mounds that look like little hills. I haven't seen these "stones" before but they sure are neat!
