How do I get rid of weeds in my vegetable garden

Can I spray weed killer on them now and plant veggies in the spring?
Doug says that it depends on what you spray. The honest brutal truth is that if you allow weeds to develop this much then you have a massive seed crop for next year already. And it's just poor gardening to allow this to happen. Also chemical sprays are no substitute for good gardening practices.
Let me suggest you pull them up now. Compost them.
Heavily mulch your vegetable garden now or in the very early spring so you have a reduced weed problem and grow a better crop (there's lots of info on the vegetable section on the left hand nav bar - near the bottom)
Then you can grow without fear of contamination or eating chemicals next year.
In general though- any herbicide- from the safest organic to the most noxious chemical works best on actively growing weeds. Once they're big and mature and not actively growing at this time of year - not much is going to do a great deal
