hostas in containers

I have a large area covered in river rock, can I put hostas in containers for colour instead of annuals. I live 50 km north of St.Lawrence River amd south west of Ottawa. Will hostas survive in pots over winter?

Doug says of course you can put hosta in containers. They grow marvelously there. Treat them as per the instructions on these pages for feeding and watering.

They will not likely successfully overwinter in a pot in your location without protection on most years. So you'll have to dig them out of the pot and plant them for the winter. Dig them up next spring and repot.
