Harvesting and sowing perennial seeds

Why can't I just deadhead my perennials for seeds and sow them directly on the ground in the fall? Must they be brought inside and stored in the fridge etc?

Doug has written about this in numerous articles - no problem doing what you're asking. Sow them where you want them. You simply have to recognize the seedlings in the spring and not weed them out. You won't get as good a germination outside as inside- and the ants/mice will get some seeds as food.

But yes it works just fine for most seeds.
