green peppers in containers

(Duluth MN)

Our nights in Duluth are now in the 40's. should I bring the pepper containers in?

Thanks,
Karen

Doug says you only bring them inside if you want them to live. :-) And yes, when the nights get cold, you bring in plants you want to overwinter. They will not continue to give you many peppers once the light levels go down but get what you can get... :-)

overwintering hot peppers is different
by: Anonymous

I have had little success overwintering green peppers, they seem fragile and susceptible to disease. Most hot peppers, on theother hand, are tough and overwinter well.

Over the last 15 years, I've developed my own unusual technique that has allowed me to keep individual hot pepper plants alive for 3 to 7 years.

To keep it short, I leave hot peppers in the ground until a light frost knocks the leaves off. This can be tricky, and I lose some plants, but if the freeze is mild enough to kill the leaves and not the major stems, the plant will survive indoors with fewer disease and insect problems.

After digging and potting the plants and bringing indoors, I just keep the plants barely alive in the basement under lights.

In the Spring I replant them after frost danger passes.
