Creeping clematis

by Jim Smith
(Ancaster ON Canada)

I love the contrast as the clematis rambles over nearby shrubs. This is not on purpose of course. The little lattice holding the clematis fell over and the plant just decided to climb elsewhere.

Canna Lily and Hummingbird

Canna Lily and Hummingbird

While taking pictures of this flower, this hummingbird showed up for about 30 seconds. I got 15 pictures or so which was very lucky... there wouldn't have been time to get it out otherwise.

modern art?

Asparagus

Asparagus

After letting the asparagus bed off for the season this past spring, was struck by how odd a few decided to grow. Looks a bit like a metal sculpture seen on display once. Maybe should get a large print of it framed and hang it in the kitchen.

Light and shade at Biltmore

by Ruth Lee
(Toronto, ON, Canada)

I took this photo at the North Carolina Biltmore estate about 9 or 10 years ago. It's a favourite because of the light and dark contrast, the path in the distance, and the painterly look of the shot.

First signs of spring in the garden are forget-me-nots which I never know where they will pop up..this year they serenaded the Leopards Bane

Veranda

Veranda "Flowers"

Though I have seen no other grandchildren in the photos submitted so far, this child is like a lovely flower to me, delightful, colourful, and growing more beautiful as she blooms... admittedly, a sentimental entry :)

The bloody cranesbill looks fantastic for about a month as it swells up beside the blue spruce.

The runt grows up

by Sandy Jo
(USA)

Aster

Aster "Winston Churchhill"

Last year, this little plant looked so forlorn, left alone on the discounted end- of-the-season table, a real runt. Put into the 'babys bed' and with just a little bit of TLC, it is really pulling out all the stops this year!

Flower Pot Tree

by Marilyn Allen
(Duluth, MN, USA)

Thirteen 6" pots dispersed on three sides of a 4x4 post planted with a small hot pink fuschia make a beautiful way to hide the ugly utilities (cable, phone, electrical, and water with hose hanger right beside the main entrance door to the house.

I found this little creature when I was picking my red currants. I usually have slugs but hadn't seen snails in my garden before.

Coming Home ...

by Dave Rolfe
(Barrie, Ontario, Canada)

This is what I come home to. Peaceful ... and yet with a touch of humour. Some yard art I bought (Easter Island Head) but most I've made myself. And of course ... a warning to be careful when walking in inclement weather.

Fabulous Fennel

by Jane Van Haasteren
(Fanwood, NJ USA)

Besides the wonderful aroma and taste of fennel, it has another remarkable quality: it's a butterfly magnet. Look in our late-season fennel thicket, and you will see a beautiful green chrysalis of a monarch butterfly -- a true miracle of nature!

Dianthus

Dianthus

Sweet Wiliams are one of my favorite flowers, with so many colors combinations; they give so much for such little effort. While doing a bit of routine gardening was sure glad the camera was handy when this Viceroy settled in for a short visit.
