Garden Design

Garden design is one of those things that beginner gardeners believe they simply can't do.   Here's my take on this thought...

The only person who has to like your garden is you.  And if you like it, then it really doesn't matter what some fancy designer thinks.  

Having said that.... a little knowledge about plants and design principles will help you figure out the 'how" of what it is you want your garden to look llike.   So here are a few tips and techniques and design thoughts to get you thinking and give you some ideas about how to make your own garden design stand out.

Garden Benches.  I firmly believe that every garden needs a place to sit.  Without that, all you do is work in your garden - not sit and relax into its wonders.  

Garden Color.  This short video features the colorful public garden Cantigny Gardens.  These folks use a broad swath of color and we can all learn something from seeing these plant combinations.

Cottage garden design is the domain of the home gardener.  Traditionally, it was the poor who had cottage gardens and they crammed them full of easy to grow, common plants.  Here's my take on how you can get your very own cottage garden.
