External pump for pond.

I need your help. I had a waterfall feeding into a fish pond installed in my yard. The contractor installed a Flotec 3/4 HP above ground pump.
I'm told by everyone that this pump is the wrong pump for this application and very expensive to operate 24 hours.
Can you please tell me what's up.
I am very confused.
Thanks in advance,
Ross Klein
Doug says - that this is a big, powerful pump that's rated for continuous duty. And yes, expensive to run.
What I don't know however is your flow rate or size of waterfall. This pump is going to push a lot of water and without that info - there's no way I can give you any sense of a right-wrong answer.
Here's a link to figure out how much flow you need over your waterfall and what size of pump you need to do it
