Corn gluten and weeds

Hi Doug. I've read with great interest your information on corn gluten. Our lawn gets worse every year. It was neglected before we bought our house and our neighbour ( nothing divides our front yard) barely mows her lawn, let alone take care of it. Needless to say, hand digging my weeds, and occasionally picking dandelion flowers from my neighbour's yard when she's not home, is not working. We're considering starting all over. If we removed the grass, and just left the dirt for a season, do you suppose using corn gluten 3-4 times in the season would help get rid of the weeds before we invest in new grass? We're hoping in the meantime our neighbour will sell her home. We could then only hope our new neighbour wasn't a chemical lover. By the way, I don;t see anywhere in your info, how to spread the corn gluten. Could I use a fertilizer spreader? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. =:)

Doug says that starting and renovating a lawn have been written about here I think many of your questions have been answered there. :-)

Corn gluten can indeed be spread with a fertilizer spreader if it is pelletized. Raw corn gluten is a powder and you'll have spread it with a larger duster.

Removing the grass and leaving it for a season won't do a darn thing but give you more weeds.

Take a look at the renovation info on the lawn pages and start a lawn care organic system (again describe there and in the e-book on lawn care).

That system will rebuild your soil and your lawn into a wonderful thing.

And sorry about the neighbors...
