compost in sun

Does the compost bin need to be in the sun ?

Doug says it helps but isn't necessary. Sunshine is one way to help keep the compost warm and working while cool shade will slow it down or even stop it if you don't have the right combination of ingredients.

Short answer - if you have the right ingredients, your pile will heat up by itself. If not, it's a good idea (but not totally essential) to get it into the sunshine. It will take longer in the shade (so build two) :_)
