cheaper container soil

(chicago, il)

you mention promix or fafard potting soil for containers. for those of us on a budget is there a huge difference if we use a less expensive miracle gro

Doug says you can use anything you like - that you can afford. :-) Just make sure the mix you purchase doesn't contain real soil (it compacts).

I understand the problems with money and gardening (oh yeah!) :-) but the soil is the basis for success. Screw up there and nothing else you do is going to make any difference.

Will miracle-gro soil work? Sure - lots of gardeners grow great stuff in it. Is it "organic" ? No. Does that matter to you? (insert answer here) :-)

I was going to plant some bulbs in a large container today in my miracle grow soil. I noticted the bag has an X on containers. It also states not for containers. What type of soil do I need.

IF YOU HAVE GOOD SOIL YOU HAVE GOOD PLANTS . I RATHER BUY MIRACLE GRO AND CONTINUOSLY HAVE BEAUTIFUL PLANTS THAN TO BUY A CHEAPER BRAND AND NOT BE ABLE TO ENJOY THE FULL POTENTIAL OF MY PLANTS.HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU HAVE TO PLANT ONE PLANT? IT`S WORTH A LITTLE MORE COST FOR A GOOD PRODUCT!!

Miracle grow does make "Organic choice" organic soil

It works great. and; Real soil is not bad to grow in. You just must mix it with peat, and perlite, and possibly add pulverized dolomitic lime to buffer the ph. (also adds cal/mag)

Any negative comments about "real" soil packing are merely because nothing was blended into the dirt to insure proper balance of aeration and moisture, in the soil.
