Do cats eat the fish, or do they only catch them and leave them there?

Doug says that any cat he ever saw catch or was given a fish (not very often he notes) ate the darn thing. But cats aren't great fish-catching creatures because they tend to not like getting wet (if they have a choice) and fish are pretty fast. But I have to assume it would pretty much depend on the cat - whether they were hungry kind of thing.
