Black Aphid on Pecan Tree

I've been told that the shiny, tiny black dots on the pecan tree leaves and twigs are black aphids. The tree is covered with them, also another tree in same backyard area. Could ladybugs only take care of a wide-spread area?

Doug says that ladybugs are indeed a major predator of this insect (as are hummingbirds) and other predator insects.

But if you have a severe infestation, it can be better for the tree faster if you spray with an insecticidal soap on the worst sections. Or a strong jet of water (pressure gun) will knock them down onto the ground where most will be eaten by other beetles etc (surprisingly few wind up back on the plants).

This is pretty much (strong water jet) the basic recommendation now for aphids. Knock 'em to the ground where they quickly become lunch. And by using water, you're not hurting any predator insect that wants to eat them.
