A Hairy Woodpecker looking a little worse for the wear.

An old sumac that has seen better days stands at the edge of our garden. It is a favourite place for the birds and butterflies to land as they fly to and fro to feed in the flowers. It also provides much needed food for the winter birds, and those that return too early in spring. Here sits a Hairy Woodpecker, looking a little worse for the wear himself,as he emerges from a molt. He was just passing through checking things out.
