Amaryllis

by Karen
(Mobile, Alabama)

Can the bulb-like part that sometimes produces just below the Amaryllis bloom be planted to start another plant? Or does it have seeds? If either, at what time do I separate it from the main stem and replant?

Doug says those are seed pods. You'll have to wait till they go brown and wither and then split them (the seeds are inside). Sow seeds right away and keep them warm and "just damp". Have patience. :-)
