A year without tomatoes?

by Lisa

For the past two years, my husband has grown an amazing, plentiful tomato garden against the south-facing wall of our house. He is now preparing the soil for year three. Will planting tomatoes in the same location year after year lead to problems with the yield or pests?

Doug says that yes, constant growing of the same crop will indeed lead to problems. Basic crop rotation is critical for long-term garden success.

Crop rotation

We have had a garden for over 25 years and we hardly ever rotate crops and have the most amazing yield of tomatoes, onions, zucchini, and peppers. We do add compost every year though
